THE OFFER OF INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP RESIDENCES IN THE STUDIO BUBEC

Studio Bubec – founded by sculptor Čestmír Suška in 2000 – provides creative space for visual artists of all disciplines. The studio organizes regular art exhibitions, Art Safari and Pick‘n‘mix art shows, festivals, music and theater performances, workshops and seminars. Thanks to its location on the outskirts of Prague the studio combines the advantages of both rural areas and the city. Calm and friendly environs, helpful community and the proximity to the protected landscape area of Prokopské and Dalejské valleys meets the benefits of regular half-hour public transfer to the historic center of Prague and the local culture hub.

WORKING SPACE AND EQUIPMENT

The Bubec Studio has an area of 1200 m2 and is situated on the plot of 3000 m2 . It provides residents with a changing room, kitchen, social facilities, WiFi network and 24/7 access to the studio. The maximum of eight artists can work here concurrently (in 2–12 week stays). Each resident has a reserved necessary working space of about 75 m2 in the open space of the studio. It is also possible to use the outdoor paved area. The studio is equipped with basic tools and production facilities for work with metal, wood, stone and other materials. It also has the lifting equipment (up to 3 tons). All the facilities are at disposal of the residents: the basic hand tools are available free of charge, the electric tools and special equipment can be rented. The residents procure materials at their own expense. The artists can also benefit from a one-time consultation with established Czech artists working in the studio (Čestmír Suška, Martin Pertl) or with technical workers in the studio. They can also ask for the mediation of a consultation of their work in the studio of a selected curator.

CONDITIONS AND OUTPUTS

Artists-in-residence are selected by the studio artistic board. For a four-week residential stay in the studio, including accommodation in a twin-room, we charge €1200. For a single-room for four weeks, we charge an additional fee of €300. The studio artistic board decides on the allocation of a limited number of full or partial scholarships to cover the fee for the stay in the studio. The residential stay can be also funded through a number of other grants, e.g. the International Visegrad Fund or in cooperation with foreign representations and culture centres of respective countries. Residents are invited to share their experience with each other and, at the end of their stay, to present their artistic output at Pick‘n‘mix show held in the Bubec Studio – an event accompanied with workshops and music & theatre performances. During the residency, we expect the resident to cooperate in at least one public or educational event, in the form of a public presentation of his or her work, a public discussion or workshop. Aside from individual residencies we also offer work stays for groups e.g. for students from art schools. For group stays, the price per resident is €20/day, including accommodation.
